What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It

Comments

The site collects data submitted through comment forms, including visitor IP addresses and browser user agent strings to help detect spam. Email addresses may be hashed and shared with Gravatar to check profile picture availability. Once comments are approved, profile pictures become publicly visible alongside the comment.

Media

Users should avoid uploading images containing embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as website visitors can download and extract this location information from images.

Cookies

Comment-related cookies save visitor names, email addresses, and websites for one year to streamline future comments. A temporary cookie checks browser cookie acceptance upon login page visits and contains no personal data. Login cookies persist for two days; screen option cookies last one year. "Remember Me" selections extend login persistence to two weeks. Article editing creates an additional cookie lasting one day that records only the post ID without personal data.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Embedded content (videos, images, articles) functions as if visitors directly accessed external websites. These third parties may collect data, use cookies, add tracking, and monitor interactions with embedded content, particularly for logged-in users.

Data Retention

Comments and metadata are retained indefinitely to enable automatic approval of follow-up comments. Registered users' profile information remains stored and editable by those users and site administrators.

Your Rights

Users with accounts or comments can request exported files of their personal data or request erasure, except data required for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Data Transmission

Visitor comments undergo automated spam detection review.
